83.2 to R Dravid, and Tom has struck! He is pleased, although this wasn't planned or attempted. t was short and wide, Dravid seemed to be a bit early into the cut shot, and the bottom edge bounced into the ground and then onto the stumps. All three wickets today have been bowleds, and all three off some deflection on the way. 317/3

74.2 to V Sehwag, lazy, tired, bored! Does nothing to this. Just stands there and brings the bat down in slow motion. The ball, as has been the case with Vettori today, doesn't turn, goes with the arm, hits his bad down the leg side and then ricochets onto the middle stump. Smiling and chatting with Gambhir as he walks off. 297/2 123.5 to MS Dhoni, and he is gone! pushes hard at this one, playing for the turn, but the ball just drifts in and gets the inside edge, which hits the pad and settles with forward short leg. 410/7 127.1 to Z Khan, superb bowling on that note! Gently tossed up, on off and middle, and then viciously speeds up upon pitching, and turns in too, crashing through Zaheer's defence. Kumar Dharmasena wants to see the replay to make sure this is not a no-ball. New trend started by Billy Bowden. Replays show Dan is fine. 412/8 151.5 to Harbhajan Singh, Bhaj is walking! He is disappointed, kicking the ground, he must be thinking he has missed a century! He went to late-cut this, but it wasn't short enough, and gets a bottom edge, and Hopkins finally hold on to one. Very important innings from Harbhajan. 487/10
17 | 4 | 56 | 1 | 3.29 | 76 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
11.6 to G Gambhir, Ryder has struck. Go Jissy. In his first over of Test bowling in India. That keeper standing up to the stumps might have had something to do with it. It was again a gentle back of a length delivery, but Gambhir drove at it without feet. It nipped back in ever so slightly, and got the inside edge into the leg stump. 60/1
29 | 6 | 135 | 3 | 4.65 | 113 | 16 | 2 | 0 | 1 | |
114.4 to SR Tendulkar, soft soft dismissal! Simple return catch for Patel. Tendulkar dances down the track, gets close to the pitch of the ball, and hits it back to Patel, chest high. Get a feeling he was looking to go on side of the bowler, because he didn't go hard at it, just a chip. 383/4 120.2 to VVS Laxman, NZ are right back! Three big wickets. Patel gets two - Tendulkar and Laxman in quick time! It looks plumb. Offbreak from just outside off, gets past Laxman's bat, hits him in front off, headed towards middle. Only an inside edge could have saved him, but there doesn't seem to be any. That's also lunch - three wickets for 9 runs. 392/6 145.5 to PP Ojha, gone! Doesn't offer a shot! Pitches just outside off, Ojha shoulders arms, expecting it to turn away, the ball goes on with the arm, and hits his back leg in front of off. 478/9
12 | 0 | 49 | 1 | 4.08 | 47 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 0 | |
119.5 to SK Raina, impatient Raina goes! This should put the slow strike rate of the Fab Three in perspective too. Raina has come out and has struggled to time because of his natural game of going hard at the ball. This is short, Raina stays back to play a forceful shot, but the ball doesn't quite come on and he ends up hitting in the air, and McCullum takes a sharp catch at short extra cover. And for a change, a debutant's first wicket is not Tendulkar. 392/5 |

2.4 to TG McIntosh, and Brendonn has put the goat mouth on McIntosh! Short ball from Zaheer, outside off, McIntosh looks to stay away from it, but it moves towards him and takes his glove even as he is looking to get the wrists out of the way. It hardly rises over stump-high! For his height, McIntosh can't get his wrists much lower. Easy catch for Dhoni. 8/1 165.4 to HK Bennett, he has clipped the leg stump! Unlucky dismissal. Angled in, gets too far across to help it down the leg side, and I think it kisses the thigh pad on the way to the top of the leg stump. 459/10
26 | 2 | 88 | 2 | 3.38 | 113 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 5 | |
117.3 to JD Ryder, very well bowled to give India something to be pleased about at the end of the day. Ryder is not expecting this to swing at all, but this length delivery pitches around off and straighten, hitting the pad first and then the bat. Rightly given out. Sreesanth's first wicket, ending NZ's second-highest fifth-wicket partnership. Ever. 331/5 157.3 to JS Patel, outswinger followed by inswinger, drawing a big drive from Patel, crashing into middle and leg. 445/9

9.1 to BJ Watling, Watling is bowled by the first ball of spin in India. And he has made this delivery look way better than it was. Pitched on a length on off stump, it straightened and held its line, and Watling pushed at it inside its line. Off stump is pegged back. 27/2 49.2 to BB McCullum, Ojha has struck! The kind of delivery you need to get wickets on this slow pitch. There is some dip on this ball, which drags McCullum as he looks to defend. Then it turns across the bat face and Dhoni - who has zero glove follow through on collections nowadays - removes the bails, and then sees McCullum's back foot is on the line. McCullum sees that too, and doesn't even wait for the third umpire's decision. 137/4 144.3 to KS Williamson, finally KW is out! One short of 300 deliveries. In the last two overs he has pushed loosely outside off twice, and this time he gets close enough to edge it, and for a change the edge carries to Laxman at first slip. 417/6 156.5 to GJ Hopkins, Ojha has got one more. He has bowled well to get it. After that sharp turning delivery, Hopkins moves across to cover the line, but this one goes straight with the angle, beating the inside edge. The only question is, whether it hit him inside the line, and it did. 445/8
43 | 7 | 112 | 1 | 2.60 | 193 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
44.5 to LRPL Taylor, Taylor has his hand on his head as he walks back! He can't believe what he has done. Gift-wrapped his wicket, that's what he has done. It was flighted on leg, maybe outside even, and he flicked it straight to short midwicket, one of the two fielders in the circle! Laxman accepts it with glee. 131/3

145.6 to DL Vettori, Raina gets a wicket! Two in a row, this pitch is on fire. Not. Vettori looked to manufacture the cut shot here, going back to a length ball, which was also not too far off off-stump line. Ir broke away, took the edge, and Vettori walked. 417/7

0.3 to G Gambhir, Tom strikes! He can't do no wrong today! Gambhir pushes at one well outside off, misjudges the angle, is playing outside the line of it, and gets an inside edge. He walks back disappointed. 0/1 4.5 to R Dravid, Chris Martin is on fire. Ahmedabad is stunned silent. 2 for 3. Martin gets it to hold its line, and Dravid - uncertain through this over - ends up poking at it, away from the body. Faint tickle through to the keeper. VVS Laxman, India need you to save another Test. 2/3 8.3 to SR Tendulkar, Martin is on absolute fire! Inswinger from outside off, Tendulkar doesn't quite cover the swing and pushes at it away from the body, gets a tick edge, onto the leg stump. Chris Martin is bowling the spell of his life. He is loving it. 15/4 10.1 to SK Raina, No. 4 for Martin! 15 for 5, and what a good catch by Taylor at the lone slip. Raina is caught on the crease, expecting the short ball, Martin bowls full, gets swing from middle and off, Raina drives at it away from the body, Taylor goes low to take the catch. Who will stop Martin?. 15/5 34.5 to MS Dhoni, PhanTom strikes! He has five! Short ball outside off, Dhoni goes deep into the crease to defend, gets the bottom edge from around the chest area, and plays it onto off stump. They are all surrounding Martin. He is pumped. Harbhajan puts on the arm guard. 65/6

89.2 to VVS Laxman, that cannot be out! Laxman is stunned! He has hit the leather off this arm ball. Big inside edge, big deflection, but given lbw by Umpire Steve Davis, who has had a ripper of a game so far. The only blemish, but that denies Laxman another second-innings century. He walks back in disbelief. 228/7 89.3 to Z Khan, and Vettori is on a hat-trick! So is Umpire Davis! Moves across, does Zaheer, to a straight length ball, and is done in by the lack of spin. Hit smack in front of stumps, given out, but Zaheer can't believe it because he reckons there is an inside edge, and replays confirm that - a late inside edge. Not as blatant as Laxman's, and Davis must have thought it to be pad first. 228/8

100.2 to Harbhajan Singh, First Test wicket for Taylor. Harbhajan comes down the track and top-edges a full toss straight to short fine. But how about this for presence of mind? He is claiming a high full toss, and has even got the umpires to check the replays. Never mind that he is well down the track. Never mind that it is still not waist high. Superb end to a superb innings. Take a bow Bhaj. 260/9 102.4 to S Sreesanth, Taylor has two! He is going at a sensational average of 2 per wicket! That must have been Marto's batting before he started working hard on it. Sreesanth goes hard at this drive, the ball doesn't turn, gets an outside edge, and Hopkins holds on to it. 266/10

0.6 to TG McIntosh, McIntosh still has enough time for a pair! Dead plumb! Zaheer has bowled the whole over outside off, and then gets one to nip in sharply, the same ball he has troubled the likes of Smith, Sanga and Ganguly with, and catches McIntosh on the crease, not expecting it to come in, smack in front of the stumps. 4/1
