10.20pm So, that just about wraps it up from Hamilton. Andrew McGlashan's match report will be here, and he will have all the follow-ups to come, including an account of Ben Stokes' return to the fray. But for now, from myself, Varun and Alagappan, goodbye and see you next time.

10.15pm Peter: "If I am reading a cricket blog I do not expect to read about a rugby score. Was just about to watch a tape of the Murrayfield match......" Apologies Peter, but I think you'd need to emigrate to Tristan da Cunha to avoid finding out such things in the internet age. Still, now you know the result, you might as well read all about it on ESPN.co.uk!

Kane Williamson "We had to play a lot of cricket before the dew came in, but it certainly was a factor. Keeping them to 70 in the last ten was a great effort, especially when Jos Buttler can hit it to all parts. Mitch Santner is a clean ball-striker."

Eoin Morgan "There wasn't much between the sides, we put a really competitive score on the board, but they fought back really well. It ebbed and flowed quite a while but taking it to the end, we didn't have enough in the tank. The dew played a part, it's a reason [we'd have batted second]. It was a competitive game, and great to be part of."

The Man of the Match is Ross Taylor "I live here, so sleeping in my own bed must have an effect," he says. "I needed to take it deep and give ourselves a chance. It was a little two-faced, even the slower balls kissed off different to a few days ago. Very small boundaries here so we backed ourselves to get 50 off five overs."

10pm Wow, what a contest. New Zealand were all at sea at 27 for 3, were cruising while Taylor and Latham were turning the tables with their fourth-wicket stand, and seemed out of it again when they slumped to 215 for 6 in 42nd over. But Mitchell Santner produced a stunning final riposte to carry his side to a very impressive win. Credit also to the NZ seamers, Boult and Southee, who refused to allow Jos Buttler to cut loose at the death in England's innings.

Sundar S: "The brains trust meeting at the start of the last over reminds me of an interview by Wes Hall talking about the tied test. Apparently The captain ran up to him before the last ball was bowled and said "I have nothing to tell you". To that Hall asked why was he there then. Worrell replied, "The batsman doesn't know I have nothing to tell you"."

Anand Jetti: "The last few overs are exactly the kind of cricket England has to stop playing! They don't seem to believe the game was their's to lose after taking 3 quick wickets. World Cup? Try leaving New Zealand without too many scars!" Well, on the plus side, setbacks like this (and England rugby at Murrayfield) are better now than at the sharp end in 2019...

6
Woakes to Santner, SIX runs

that's the way to win it! In the slot, slammed off the toes like a left-handed Carlos Brathwaite, high over deep midwicket to give New Zealand first blood in a thrilling finale!

49.2
1w
Woakes to Santner, 1 wide

slower ball, but it's too far outside off stump!

Woakes to Santner, FOUR runs

on the toes, and flicked through the legs for a vital boundary! So unlucky for Woakes, he got the blockhole targetted, but the inside edge did enough for New Zealand

So, who has the honour? There's a big brains-trust meeting taking place. Morgan, Stokes, Woakes and Buttler. And it will be Chris Woakes... I guess Kolkata is too raw a memory for such a moment...

Tom Curran to Santner, 1 run

full length, dug out to long on. England have nine runs to defend in the final over

That was an uncalled no-ball incidentally..

48.5
4
Tom Curran to Santner, FOUR runs

slower ball, and this time Santner gets enough bat on his mow to find the gap! A desperate heave across the line, who cares where it goes, so long as it goes! Through square leg

48.4
1
Tom Curran to Southee, 1 run

another big wind-up from Southee but a grunt of frustration as he fails to pick the slower ball and scuffs a pull along the ground to long-on

48.3
1
Tom Curran to Santner, 1 run

another very full length, brave from Curran and so far effective. Santner gives himself room but can't free his arms

Sushruth : "Why didn't Morgan go back to Willey. Surely a better option at this stage. Granted Rashid took the key wicket. But he should've gone back to Willey who has 4 overs left unbowled" Willey is rarely as good at the death as with the new ball.

48.2
1
Tom Curran to Southee, 1 run

very full once again, and that's thumped with vigour to long-on. Southee looks like a man with sixes in his locker

Anand Jetti: "It makes an interesting discussion but in reality England will play gracious hosts for one of Australia or India to take the World Cup home!" Entirely plausible!

48.1
1
Tom Curran to Santner, 1 run

a cunning slower ball, dipping late into the blockhole, and dug out into the covers

Curran takes the penultimate over

Rashid to Santner, 1 run

heaved hard down to long-on, gathered on the bounce. An expensive final over, but a fine spell from Rashid, and a key wicket

47.5

Rashid to Southee, 1 run

wider line, thumped into the covers

47.4
Rashid to Southee, no run

right behind the line of the ball to defend back down the pitch. Southee content to make no mistake with the leggie all but bowled out

47.3

Rashid to Santner, 1 run

flatter and faster, probably the way to go against a man in a mood. Santner sizes up another belligerent pull but can't time it this time

47.3
1w
Rashid to Santner, 1 wide

too wide from Rashid, trying to stay clear of Santner's hitting zone, and pays the price in extras

Mr Perspective: "A lot of talk about England bowlers but I've been impressed with Curran, bodes well. " Agree. He's got something about him in ODIs. He wants to be the hero, which is crucial

47.2
6
Rashid to Santner, SIX runs

another slam into the stands! Rashid made the difference in the last over, but he's maybe gone one too many now... Santner leans back for another fierce slog over the leg side

47.1
6
Rashid to Santner, SIX runs

a massive slog into the night sky! Drops to one knee, gets right underneath the shot, and dispatches a towering six onto the grass bank at cow corner!

Tom Curran to Santner, 1 run

flipped with urgency off the toes to deep backward square

Richard Holroyd: "How can a ball that just misses the leg bail (Stokes to Taylor a few overs ago) be called a wide ? " Tight margins in one-day cricket

46.4
Tom Curran to Santner, no run

cracked to cover with plenty intent but no great direction

46.3
1
Tom Curran to Southee, 1 run

beautifully bowled! A doodlebug of a slow yorker, tailing into the toes and somehow squeezed out to cover. That was exceptional death bowling
