At Boland Park in Paarl North West took full advantage of winning the
toss, putting pressure on Boland by bowling them out for 168 in
the first innings. From there they stayed on top to win their first
match of the season by four wickets. Brendon Adams, the left-arm spinner and batsman, was by far the most successful player for Boland. He scored 130 runs in the match - an undefeated 63 in the first innings followed by 67 in the second - and also picked up 3 for 47 with his to crown a good allround performance. Bardo Fransman, the Boland fast bowler, returned career-best figures of 5 for 36 in the North West first innings. Richard Stroh, the North West captain, led from the front scoring 91 in the first innings to help set up the victory.
At the University ground in Bloemfontein only 35 overs were played as
rain and a waterlogged outfield put paid to any meaningful cricket.
