BRISBANE, Jan 18 AAP - South Australian cricket coach Greg Chappell believes his Redbacks can recover from last night's crushing one-day loss to Queensland as they prepare to meet the Pura Cup competition leaders at the Gabba tomorrow.
The Redbacks returned to the Gabba nets today, chewing over their dismal total of just 83 - South Australia's lowest ever total in domestic one-day matches - during the seven-wicket ING Cup loss.
But Chappell and Queensland captain Martin Love believe the Bulls won't necessarily take a mental advantage into tomorrow's clash.
"There is nothing we can do about that now, except to forget about it," Chappell said.
"We can probably take a positive from the fact that just about all the batsmen got themselves out.
"Playing in Perth and Brisbane are the two toughest trips in Australian cricket and sometimes it takes a little while for the batsmen to get used to the extra bounce and pace.
"We had another net session today so hopefully that will have us ready for this game."
The Redbacks have performed well in their most recent visits to Brisbane and Perth, thrashing the Bulls in the corresponding Pura Cup match last season when Darren Lehmann posted a century.
But Lehmann and Australian one-day teammate Jason Gillespie will miss the rest of the season because of international commitments, adding to the problems for the fourth-placed Redbacks.
Mark Higgs, Mick Miller, Chris Davies and Damien Fleming are sidelined with injuries but the Redbacks received good news today when paceman Paul Rofe was cleared to play despite dislocating and gashing a finger during yesterday's match.
The Bulls are also facing another title defence without some of their stars - waving goodbye to internationals Matthew Hayden, Jimmy Maher, Andrew Bichel and Andrew Symonds for the rest of the season.
Ashes tourist Ashley Noffke is out with a fractured finger but he should soon return to the field as the Bulls fight for their fourth consecutive Pura Cup title.
They can rely on plenty of experience - including Test-capped players Love, Michael Kasprowicz and Stuart Law - along with in-form batsmen Lee Carseldine and Clinton Perren.
Love missed Queensland's gritty win over Western Australia in Perth earlier this month because of Test duty but he will finish the season with Queensland facing the prospect of leading the Bulls to his first Pura Cup triumph as captain.
Kasprowicz, who failed to take a wicket during the Redbacks' 21-over capitulation yesterday, needs three wickets during the Pura Cup match to become the second bowler to record 400 first-class wickets for the Bulls.
Queensland: Martin Love (capt), Brendan Nash, Daniel Payne, Clinton Perren, Stuart Law, Lee Carseldine, James Hopes, Wade Seccombe, Nathan Hauritz, Michael Kasprowicz, Adam Dale, Joe Dawes (12th man to be named)
South Australia: Greg Blewett (capt), Mark Cleary, John Davison, Shane Deitz, David Fitzgerald, Mark Harrity, Ben Higgins, Ben Johnson, Paul Rofe, Shaun Tait, Jeff Vaughan.
