Dazzling 144 by Zuffri

An action packed final day's play highlighted the Orissa-Assam East Zone Ranji Trophy game which ended in a draw at the Angul stadium in Orissa on Thursday. Orissa finished with five points and Assam three.

Orissa, resuming at 118 for one in their second innings declared at 202 for four. They scored 84 runs off only 13.3 overs. Opener P Mahapatra, 41 overnight, remained unbeaten with 62 at the declaration. He faced 132 balls and hit four boundaries.

The declaration left Assam, 119 runs behind on the first innings a target of 322. Opener and skipper SZ Zuffri, who scored a bright 68 in the first innings picked up the gauntlet and hit out boldly. But wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end until Zuffri found an able partner in S Ghosh (47) with whom he added 113 runs for the fifth wicket off 26 overs. Ghosh hit 47 off 84 balls with five fours and three sixes. Zuffri was bowled by Satpathy in the following over without any addition to the total. For his dazzling 144, he faced 212 balls and hit 22 fours and a six. Assam ended at 265 for seven off 77 overs.
