Laura Newton compiled a steady 60 and helped England prevail in their warm-up game against Northerns. Chasing a target of 213, Northerns fell 51 runs short with the two offspinners, Helen Wardlaw (3 for 12) and Rosaline Birch (2 for 31), claiming five wickets between them.
Barring M Langa, who made a patient 44 at the top of the order, none of the Northern's batsmen passed 27 and England's target was never under threat. The highlight of their innings was the 102-run partnership between Clare Connor, the captain, and Newton. K Blair, with 4 for 32, was the most successful bowler for Northerns.
