The captain of the Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly, returned to his
home city on Tuesday. After his arrival at Calcutta airport, Ganguly
made it clear that the young players of the team would bring many
laurels to the country in the future. Replying to questions by
journalists, Ganguly said, "Let us give some time to the youngsters to
settle down. They have not been consistent simply because they have
just arrived on the international scene. Once they gain experience,
they will be an asset to the side and will bring laurels to the
country."
The Indian captain was quick to defend the failure of the team at
Sharjah by saying, "Today people are lauding the Sri Lankans. They
also passed through a similar stage when they were rebuilding. They
also lost matches. However, the same youngsters are winning them
trophies today. Our team also has the talent. Just give them the time
to blossom," said Ganguly. When asked whether the team for the Test
match against Bangladesh was good, Ganguly replied, "A team can be
judged by its performance only."
However, the usual fanfare that marks Ganguly's arrival was absent at
the airport. Other than his father, there was nobody else to receive
him.
