Scorecard
The India Under-19 team beat their Sri Lankan counterparts by a comfortable margin of 159 runs at Colombo's Police Park in their opening game of the triangular series.
India U-19, opting to bat after winning the toss, made 277 for 5 in 50 overs before dismissing the hosts for 118 runs in 38 overs.
Shreevats Goswami, the Indian wicketkeeper and opening batsman, top scored with 77 off 109 balls. Tanmay Srivastava also made a half-century, his 66 taking 98 deliveries. The other batsmen too made useful contributions, with Virat Kohli getting a 36-ball 38. Saurav Tiwary scored a quick 32 off 18 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja and Pradeep Sangwan contributing 18 each at the end.
Sachith Pathirana, Sri Lanka's captain and slow left-arm orthodox bowler who had picked up a four-for in yesterday's washed out game against Bangladesh, took 3 for 49 from his 10 overs. Pathirana dismissed Goswami, Srivastava, and Kohli.
Sri Lanka were unable to put up a fight in reply to India's total as they lost wickets at regular intervals. At one stage, they were 59 for 3, before Jadeja and Iqbal Abdulla triggered a collapse, reducing Sri them to 84 for 8. The tailenders put on a few runs, but were ultimately knocked over, 160 runs short of the target.
