India v Pakistan

At Kanpur, December, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21

15-Apr-1962
At Kanpur, December, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21. Drawn. Slow-scoring, plodding cricket brought an inevitable draw, and indeed, not until well into the fifth and final day was the first innings of both sides completed.
Though the Modi Stadium pitch has the reputation of being helpful to spin bowlers, the batsmen exaggerated the dangers, showing extreme caution almost throughout.
On the first day India quickly turned to spin and Pakistan lost three men for 93 runs, but Burki and Mathias, in a dour stand of 81, put a better complexion on the innings.
Though both were out within ten minutes of resuming on the second day, Pakistan batted consistently, and Nasim-ul-Ghani played his highest Test Innings, ensuring a satisfactory total. Umrigar, employing off-breaks most of the time, was India's most effective bowler.
A marathon display by Jaisimha provided the backbone of the India innings. He and Manjrekar put on 90 for the third wicket, but neither really attempted to break the grip of Haseeb Ahsan and Nasim-ul-Ghani, two accurate spin bowlers. Umrigar helped in a partnership of 76 before Jaisimha was run out attempting a sharp single to complete his century. He batted eight hours twenty minutes and hit twelve 4's. Umrigar hit eleven 4's in his 115 made in five hours forty minutes.
India, 69 ahead, were all out just before lunch on the last day, and with Burki again sound, Pakistan found no difficulty in batting out time.
