India v Pakistan

The game produced yet another stalemate

15-Apr-1962
The game produced yet another stalemate. Again, determination to avoid defeat rather than to go all out for victory was the factor which set the pattern of a dull game.
Two centuries were scored by each side in the two completed innings and four records were broken. Hanif Mohammad and Imtiaz Ahmed registered Pakistan's best first-wicket partnership against any country by opening with 162 in three hours forty minutes, and Contractor and Jaisimha gave India their best start of the series with an opening partnership of 84.
Then Borde's 177 not out in nine hours was the highest individual score for either country in the three series between them. In addition, India's 539 for nine declared was their highest total in Test cricket.
On the fourth day play ended twenty minutes early because of a fire which gutted the eastern section of the stands in the corporation stadium.
