INDIA v WEST INDIES 1988-89

At Sharjah, October 21

15-Apr-1990
At Sharjah, October 21. West Indies won by eight wickets. Toss: India. Greenidge, surviving an early chance to the wicket-keeper off Maninder, and Haynes posted 50 in the thirteen over and put on 165 for the first wicket to equal the highest partnership in a Sharjah tournament: by S. M. Gavaskar and M. Azharuddin for the second wicket against Australia in April 1987. Another 5 runs from their openers and West Indies would have won by ten wickets. Sanjeev Sharma saved India from this embarassment by taking two wickets with consecutive balls. With Sidhu nursing a shoulder injury, India had to rearrange their batting line-up and struggled as West Indies' four fast bowlers found more bounce and pace in the pitch than had been obvious in earlier matches. But for a seventh-wicket stand of 51 off 63 balls between More and Pandit, West Indies' task would have been even easier.
Man of the Match: D. L. Haynes.
