Josh Hazlewood announced his return to the Australian side in style and claimed four wickets to help his team beat Pakistan by six wickets in the Quarter-Final in Adelaide on Friday.
Hazlewood replaced Pat Cummins in Australia's eleven and he was amongst the wickets in just the sixth over of the match, when he dismissed opener Ahmed Shehzad.
Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson added to the pressure on Pakistan's batsmen, who were already struggling with confidence. Pakistan were reduced to five for 124 in 30 overs.
Hazlewood, the least expensive of the fast bowlers on display, dismissed the dangerous Shahid Afridi, who miscued his pull and was well caught by Aaron Finch above his head back near the boundary in the 34th over.
A well-set Sohaib Maqsood was his next victim in the 42nd over. He claimed his fourth wicket, Sohail Khan, three-overs later. The accurate display from Australia helped them reduce the opposition to 213.
Australia were themselves reduced to 59 for three in 11 overs, with the bat, but Shane Watson and Steven Smith helped them recover with a 89-run stand for the fourth wicket. The hosts eventually emerged victors in 33.5 overs.
"Great day, I've been bowling well all week so good to put in a performance. Happy to get a game today and happy with the result. Keeping them to 213 was perfect for us and the boys did a good job with the bat. We're firing on all aspects, it's been a good tournament and we're going well," Hazlewood said.
