Lara and Jones fined for code breaches

West Indies captain Brian Lara and England fast bowler Simon Jones have both been fined 50% of their match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test between West Indies and England

West Indies captain Brian Lara and England fast bowler Simon Jones have both been fined 50% of their match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test between West Indies and England.
Lara was found guilty of dissent towards the umpires at the end of the third day while Jones was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for bringing the game into disrepute following his reaction to the dismissal Ramnaresh Sarwan on day four.
The decisions came in separate hearings held by ICC Match Referee Mike Procter after the match concluded in Trinidad today.
In announcing his decisions, Mr Procter said that both players had clearly breached the Code.
"In Brian's case the match officials acted in the correct and proper manner and his reaction as the players and officials left the field was inappropriate," said Mr Procter.
"He demonstrated regret for his actions in the hearing and said that he had learned from the experience."
"Simon's aggresive reaction after dismissing Sarwan was unnecessary and brought the game into disrepute."
"He also expressed regret for his actions and both umpires supported the view that this conduct was out of character in comparison with his general behaviour."
Lara was found in breach of Level 1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct which prohibits players "showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse".
Jones was charged under C.2 of the Code at Level 1 which states that players must not "engage in conduct unbecoming to their status which could bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute".
All Level 1 charges carry a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee and/or an official reprimand.
Both charges were laid by match umpires Daryl Harper and Billy Bowden.
