Close New Zealand 322-8 (M Lewis 129, H Tiffen 63, K Martin 48, B Sing 3-39) met WCAI XI 108 (M Mabin 38, M Kanoija 24*, N Scripps 3-8, R Steele 2-9, A Mason 2-26, L Milliken 2-29)
Maia Lewis, the New Zealand captain, played an outstanding innings of 129 as a total of 322-8 was achieved on the second day of the two-day warm-up match against the WCAI XI in Mumbai yesterday. The match was played in sweltering heat and Lewis eventually retired "hurt" to allow other batsmen some time in the middle.
Lewis and her overnight batting partner Katey Martin completed a 79-run partnership for the third wicket before Martin was out when hitting a return catch to Mamta Mabin after scoring 48 off 98 balls. It was a disappointing end for Martin who was looking set to prosper after doing all the hard work.
Haidee Tiffen then joined Lewis, in what turned out to be an outstanding partnership for the fourth wicket. They added 186 runs. Lewis's 129 was scored off 173 balls and included 12 fours. She and Tiffen ran superbly between the wickets. So well did they combined that Tiffen did not score a boundary in her innings of 63 off 151 balls, a conservative innings for her. She was joined by Aimee Mason after Lewis retired and they added 23 before Tiffen was dismissed for 63 off 151 balls. Four wickets were then lost in quick succession but Mason was unbeaten by the end on 34 not out, although she had given two chances.
Sara McGlashan had not been feeling well and batted lower in the order than planned. She scored 18. The game was called off 70 minutes before the scheduled stumps.
