Zimbabwe Cricket has appointed former Zimbabwe coach Stephen Mangongo the coach of the Under-19 side. Mangongo takes over from interim coach Walter Chawaguta and will work with the provisional Under-19 squad to prepare for the Under-19 World Cup that will be held in Bangladesh early next year.
Mangongo was the coach of the national side from July to December 2014 and was sacked only eight weeks before the World Cup. He was fired when Zimbabwe lost all their eight matches on the Bangladesh tour at the end of 2014 and was also criticised for his coaching style and handling of players.
Chawaguta was appointed to the national selection panel along with David Mutendera. Chawaguta had coached the national team in 2008 and was briefly a national selector in 2004 too. Mutendera, who played one Test and nine ODIs, was part of the selection panel earlier and was axed after the 2011 World Cup.
Chawaguta and Mutendera will join head coach Dav Whatmore and Elton Chigumbura on the selection panel that is headed by convenor Kenyon Ziehl.
