McGrath ruled out of VB Series against Bangladesh

Following an injured left ankle, Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has been ruled out of the VB Series of one-day internationals against Bangladesh and will return home to Sydney today (31 July)

Following an injured left ankle, Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has been ruled out of the VB Series of one-day internationals against Bangladesh and will return home to Sydney today (31 July).
A replacement for the New South Welshman will be announced in due course.
McGrath experienced pain in the back of the ankle during the Second 3 Test in Cairns and will consult a specialist in Sydney tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury.
Australian Team physiotherapist Errol Alcott said it is not yet known how long McGrath will be sidelined.
"Glenn has been diagnosed with a posterior impingement of the left ankle, a syndrome not uncommon to fast bowlers," Alcott said.
"It is a problem that has caused him ongoing discomfort over the past week and as such we felt it was prudent to get the injury seen to quickly.
"We will have a better understanding of the time frame required for Glenn's rehabilitation following his session with the specialist tomorrow," he said.
McGrath said he was frustrated in having to miss the three one-day internationals.
"I'm naturally disappointed at having to pull-out of the series, however knowing that we have a few months ahead of us that are clear of cricket commitments, I can use that period to get on top of the injury," McGrath said.
"It an injury that I have managed for most of my international career, but during the recent Test in Cairns it just seemed to flair up.
"I was really pleased with the way I had been bowling, in fact it's probably the best I have bowled since the World Cup, so it's disappointing that this has happened now," he said.
