Lancashire have confirmed the signing of paceman Nathan Buck from Leicestershire on a three-year deal as the county look to bolster an ailing seam fast-bowling attack.
Buck, 23, has represented England Lions having come through the age-group ranks since Under-15 level in a career that has been hit by injury but this year has managed 42 wickets in nine Championship appearances at 30.71. Overall he has 150 first-class wickets in 60 matches at 37.78.
On signing his deal, Buck spoke about his "big ambitions to win competitions" although could yet be joining a county in Division Two of the Championship if Lancashire cannot avoid relegation for the second time in three seasons during the closing weeks of the summer.
"I'm very proud and excited to be joining a huge club like Lancashire," Buck said. "I had several options on the table but as soon as I knew of Lancashire's interest I had an easy decision to make. I met the management and was very impressed by everything they talked about.
"I want to thank Leicestershire for all they have done for me and the amazing fans there but I feel it's time to take a step forward in my career.
"I have big ambitions to win competitions and play at a higher level. I know I can achieve these things at Old Trafford. The staff and facilities are first class and it's a dream move for me."
Buck's arrival for the 2015 season will help compensate for the retirement of Kyle Hogg who, at 31, conceded he could not continue his career due to back problems while there are doubts over the future of club captain Glen Chapple. Since the departure of Peter Moores to England earlier this season, Chapple has taken on an expanded role behind the scenes at Lancashire.
Mike Watkinson, the director of cricket, said: "Nathan is performing at a good level now and has the potential to become even better. He's been involved in the England system and is highly regarded. Given the sad news that we have lost Kyle Hogg, Nathan will bring in some additional quality and depth to our seam bowling unit."
Buck becomes the latest promising player to leave Leicestershire who recently lost Shiv Thakor, the allrounder, to Derbyshire despite offering him a new contract.
