†NEW ZEALAND v ENGLAND 1982-83

At Auckland, February 19

15-Apr-1984
At Auckland, February 19. New Zealand won by six wickets. On a dry pitch, of low and awkward bounce, Willis chose to bat and England, although New Zealand were without Hadlee, soon showed the effects of having had no cricket for a fortnight. Even Gower, dropped twice, found freedom hard to achieve, his 84 containing no fewer than 40 singles. The match-winning innings was played for New Zealand by Turner, who scored the first 50 of his 88 in 54 balls. With Edgar making him a good opening partner (New Zealand were also without Wright), and Cairns contributing a brief but explosive 19, New Zealand won with 21 balls to spare.
Man of the Match: G. M. Turner. Attendance: 41,000.
