The innings which Grant Elliott played against South Africa helped New Zealand make the final of World Cup 2015, after they narrowly beat their opponents by four wickets, with one ball to spare, in Auckland on Tuesday.
South Africa's captain AB de Villiers won the toss and chose to bat first and their strong middle order came to the fore after openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock were dismissed early.
JP Duminy, de Villiers and David Miller plundered New Zealand's bowlers and helped their side post a sizeable 281. The target was revised to 298 after Duckworth-Lewis did its work.
Brendon McCullum helped inject early pace into New Zealand's innings and clobbered 59 from just 26 balls. But once he was dismissed, the hosts lost wickets regularly.
Elliott announced his entry with a boundary in the 18th over and he kept his composure through his innings. He reached his 50 from just 53 balls and took his side to the brink of a final.
In the last over, New Zealand needed 12 to win. Daniel Vettori and Elliott managed just singles from the first two balls, before Vettori found the fence and added another single with the next two.
Elliott had two balls to negate and five runs to get, and he deposited Dale Steyn's for a huge six over long-on. His innings qualifies for the #BendTheRules Moments of the day.
