At Dubai, November 11, 2011 (day/night). Pakistan won by eight wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. One-day international debut: C. K. B. Kulasekara.
In the previous six months Shahid Afridi had been stripped of the one-day captaincy and announced a brief retirement - but now he was back, and it was as if he had never been away. He marked his return with a lead role as a miserable Sri Lanka were thumped. Afridi took three wickets, including Chandimal in his first over, to lead the sort of spinning choke Sri Lanka once specialised in themselves. Mohammad Hafeez strangled the life out of the innings, and Saeed Ajmal chipped in unnoticed as Sri Lanka folded in less than 41 overs. The surface still gave the bowlers some help, but Imran Farhat and Younis Khan put it into perspective in a partnership of 103 as Pakistan made light work of Sri Lanka's disappointing total.
Man of the Match: Shahid Afridi.
