Ramnaresh Sarwan has been sidelined for three weeks after suffering a hand injury while batting for Guyana. Sarwan chipped a bone in his right thumb when he was struck by fast bowler Fidel Edwards on the opening day of the Carib Beer Series match against Barbados at Georgetown.
The latest setback is another blow for Sarwan, especially since he was on the comeback trail. Recently, Sarwan missed the one-dayers in Pakistan after he was struck on the foot, and that subsequently forced him out of the four-match one-day series in India.
"I am very disappointed,' Sarwan told CMC. "I was looking forward to the final four [of the KFC Cup] and preparing for the World Cup."
Sarwan received treatment on the field from Jacqui King-Mowatt, the Barbados physiotherapist, but he continued batting, before retiring hurt at tea. Precautionary x-rays later revealed the extent of the injury.
Sarwan is hopeful of being fit in time for the World Cup which begins on March 13. He has been ruled him out of all the remaining KFC Cup matches and the Carib Beer Series final - should Guyana qualify - beginning on February 22.
