At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 22, 2004. Sri Lanka won by 37 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka.
"We would be lucky to be called club cricketers," said Smith after his side made a mess of
chasing an achievable target. But although South Africa's top order batted poorly, credit should
still go to Zoysa, who expertly exploited their collective fallibility with bounce, cut and seam
movement to secure his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals the day before his wedding.
Sri Lanka's final total owed almost everything to Sangakkara and Chandana, whose stand of 93
in 117 balls was a Sri Lanka record for the sixth wicket against South Africa. Chandana played
despite allegedly suffering a road-rage attack by two members of the Sri Lanka army the previous
evening. Dilshan ended lower-order resistance to claim career-best figures.
Man of the Match: D. N. T. Zoysa.
