There were four occasions when teams had five such totals in a season: Sri Lanka in seven Tests in 2001-02, England in seven Tests in 2002 and India in nine Tests in 2003-04 and in ten Tests in 2007-08. Australia have made four such totals in five different seasons including in 2014-15 but have never made more than four before this season.

170 Runs by Brendon McCullum in this Test - the most by a captain in his last Test. Karl Nunes had made 158 runs - 66 & 92 - for West Indies against England in Kingston in 1929-30. In the first innings, McCullum had become the first player to score a century as a captain in his last Test.

He made 195 and 145 in his two Test innings and 51, 65 and 55 in his three ODI innings here. Having been dismissed on 25, first time he failed to score 50 or more here. His average as an opener against them is even lower - 14.78, which is the lowest among all those who have opened in 10 or more innings against Australia. Guptill averages 28.52 in ODIs and 15.66 in T20Is against them.
