Trevor Hohns on selection of the Australian team for the second 3-sponsored Test

The National Selection Panel (NSP) today named Western Australian fast-bowler Brad Williams in the Australian XI for the second 3-sponsored Test match against India at the Adelaide Oval.

The National Selection Panel (NSP) today named Western Australian fast-bowler Brad Williams in the Australian XI for the second 3-sponsored Test match against India at the Adelaide Oval.
Williams replaces New South Welshman Nathan Bracken in what represents the only change to the side which drew with India in the first Test at the `Gabba in Brisbane.
NSP Chairman Trevor Hohns said: "We thought long and hard about the make-up of this side and it was certainly a difficult decision to leave Nathan Bracken out, after his promising Test debut in Brisbane.
"On that occasion we felt Nathan was the right man to play in Brisbane, with his ability to swing the ball in the humid and overcast conditions.
"However Adelaide represents a new environment with a flat wicket that should suit Brad Williams' style of bowling.
"He should give us some extra fire power.
"Despite a disappointing day in Brisbane, we felt Andrew Bichel, who has been an integral part of the side over the past eighteen months deserved his chance.
"He is a strong competitor and importantly his most recent match for Queensland at the Adelaide Oval saw him take 10 wickets.
"His batting also provides us with some added depth," he said.
Australia: Stephen Waugh (captain), Ricky Ponting (vc), Andrew Bichel, Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillespie, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Simon Katich, Stuart MacGill, Damien Martyn, Brad Williams, Nathan Bracken (12th man).
