Vaughan in the house as new chief executive

Justin Vaughan has continued New Zealand Cricket's tradition of appointing former international players as its chief executive after he was named as Martin Snedden's replacement. Vaughan, who appeared in six Tests and 18 ODIs between 1992 and 1997, has been a NZC board member and is also a qualified doctor.

He will leave his current role as the chief executive of BrainZ instruments in Auckland and start the new position in Christchurch in June. "I have had a long association with cricket and hope to build on the hard work which has taken cricket in New Zealand from a largely amateur structure in the early 1990s to a professional sport," he said.

Sir John Anderson, the NZC board chairman, said Vaughan "has all the attributes required to take over from Snedden". Snedden, the former bowler, will end his six-year stint in charge in May to become the chief executive of the 2011 rugby World Cup organising committee.

Vaughan was a middle-order batsman who captained Auckland and also bowled nagging medium pace. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 1992, scoring 17 off 106 balls in the first innings and an unbeaten 0 off 33 in the second, and posted a career-high 44 against West Indies during his second match more than three years later. He finished his career with 201 runs at 18.27 and 11 wickets at 40.90.
