Scorecard
Charl Willoughby bowled Western Province Boland back into the Pro20 Series at Kingsmead in Durban with the best bowling analysis of the tournament. He took 4 for 9 in his four overs to help his team eke out an 86-run win against Dolphins.
Having lost the toss and being sent in to bat, Western Province Boland got their innings off to a brisk start. Andrew Puttick and Vernon Philander, a late replacement for Rory Kleinveldt who injured his ankle just before the toss, put on 98 for the second wicket after the early loss of Derrin Bassage for 14. Puttick's 50 came off 42 balls while Philander scored a valuable 40 off 32. However, the Dolphins bowlers then restricted WPBOL with some accurate full-length bowling. With three overs remaining the big guns came out as Puttick smashed two more fours and two sixes before being run-out for 86 off 62 balls. JP Duminy finished on 19 as WPBOL recorded their highest total of the season.
The Dolphins got off to a disastrous start. Hashim Amla, Wade Wingfield, Shaun Pollock, Morne van Vuuren and Jon Kent were out inside the first five overs. Willoughby was the destroyer with a triple-wicket maiden as he swung the ball back into the right-handers. The run out of Russell Symcox for 16 and the wicket of Ahmed Amla for 21 added to the Dolphins woes as they collapsed to 60 for 7 after 12 overs. The slide continued and they were eventually bowled out in 18.3 overs for 88.
Lions 76 for 1 (Bacher 39*) beat Titans 65 for 1 (de Bruin 39*) by 12 runs (D/L Method)
Scorecard
Rain at The Wanderers in Johannesburg resulted in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series match between the Lions and the Titans being turned into a seven-over smash-and-grab affair. The Lions won by 12 runs to go through to the semi-finals.
A 68-minute rain delay at the start reduced the game to 19 overs per side. Before a ball could be bowled rain further reduced it to 17 overs. After 2.4 overs, with the Lions on 15, the heavens opened up again taking them off for another 83 minutes. On resumption, the game had been reduced to the minimum allowed seven overs.
After two streaky fours Ashraf Mall (20) was bowled by Alfonso Thomas leaving it to Adam Bacher, who hit four fours and two sixes in his 39, and Neil McKenzie (16), to take the Lions to 76 for 1 at the end of the seven overs. The Duckworth-Lewis method was then applied and the target revised to 78.
The Titans suffered a loss in the first over as Albie Morkel was caught off David Terbrugge for 8. Alviro Petersen (19 not out) and Zander de Bruyn (37 not out) attempted to stay in touch but in the end fell 12 runs short with Justin Ontong conceding only ten in the final over.
