Ireland v Afghanistan, 2016
Wisden's review of the second ODI, Ireland v Afghanistan, 2016
15-Apr-2017
At Belfast, July 12. Afghanistan won by 39 runs. Afghanistan 250 (49.2 overs) (Mohammad Shahzad 66, Najibullah Zadran 59; B. J. McCarthy 4-59, K. J. O'Brien 4-45); ‡Ireland 211 (48.2 overs) (E. C. Joyce 62, K. J. O'Brien 35; Mohammad Nabi 3-45, Rashid Khan 3-28).
After Ed Joyce made 62, opening in an ODI for the first time in four years, Ireland looked in control at 160-3 in the 34th over. But the middle order were confounded by Mohammad Nabi's off-breaks and the leg-spin of 17-year-old Rashid Khan, and the last seven wickets tumbled for 51. Afghanistan had crumbled too, from 195-4 in the 39th; Barry McCarthy, the Dublin-born Durham seamer playing only his third ODI, took the last four wickets
