Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe
Wisden's review of the first match, Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe
Put in on an unusually green pitch, under swing-friendly cloud, Zimbabwe were soon in trouble at 50-6. They recovered slightly, thanks to Peter Moor's adventurous batting - he heaved four leg-side sixes - and some late grit from skipper Graeme Cremer, but the target was still a modest one. It didn't help that, when Dhananjaya de Silva feathered the first ball of the chase to Moor, bowler Tinashe Panyangara had overstepped. De Silva pulled the free hit for four, and never looked back as Sri Lanka zoomed to a bonus-point victory.
