At Kingston, Jamaica, July 7, 2012. West Indies won by 55 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
To the delight of the biggest crowd at Sabina Park since Caribbean cricket's heyday in the 1980s,
Gayle produced a brilliant display of straight hitting to overtake Brian Lara's West Indies record of
19 one-day international hundreds. Even after Gayle swung a catch to deep midwicket attempting his tenth six, Samuels - who had helped him add 129 - retained the Jamaican theme, advancing in
the final over to his own century, the third of his one-day international career and the first since his
two-year ban ended in May 2010. None of the eight bowlers went for less than 5.5 runs an over as
West Indies compiled their highest total against New Zealand. Watling, with an unbeaten 72 off 62
balls to follow his 60 two days earlier, led a decent but unthreatening response.
Man of the Match: M.N. Samuels
