At Melbourne, February 3, 2012 (floodlit). India won by eight wickets. Toss: Australia.
India finally outplayed their hosts, producing a fielding performance so clinical it gained grudging admiration even from the Australians. Gambhir's nerveless pouching of Warner's towering pull set the tone, and the extension of Shaun Marsh's miserable summer was rightly overshadowed by India snaring four run-outs and a stumping. Jadeja's slick work at backward point did for Finch and Bailey. Next day, Jadeja, who also bowled smartly, was bought for $2 million by Chennai Super Kings at the IPL auction. It was only Australia's third defeat in 15 home Twenty20 internationals.
Man of the Match: R.A. Jadeja.
