Zimbabwe Cricket is aiming to find the next generation of scorers and umpires by holding a course at Harare Sports Club. A board-picked group of 19, which includes 13 women, will attend the two-day meeting.
"Many of our current scorers have come out of the women's league and we want to continue to draw from this source," ZC spokesperson Shingai Rhuhwaya said. "We'd like to see female cricket clubs build a database of professional which will inadvertently feed into the men's league."
ZC has had ongoing issues with releasing scorecards to the media, with the nadir coming in 2007 when some cards from first-class and List A matches took several months to be produced. While it has invested in eliminating problems, it still suffers from occasional glitches. "In the past ZC has been challenged by errors in the scorecards owing to lack of knowledge of the modalities of scoring in high profile and fast paced matches," Rhuhwaya admitted.
"The infrastructure has been set-up and we are now able to score live during matches held in either of the five franchise bases," she added.
Cricinfo has been involved in updating the systems and has provided scoring software and training. Live scores from Logan Cup matches have recently started appearing on the site.
