0.6 to P Nissanka, wicket in the first over! After a bit of wayward line, Southee pitches one in the corridor just outside off to draw Nissanka forward and this ball has swung the most in this over. Nissanka tickles it behind as the ball moves away and the keeper does the rest. 2/1

72.3 to LD Chandimal, Phillips gets the breakthrough and it's the big wicket of Chandimal! He comes down the ground to take the ball on the full but doesn't quite get under it while opening his body towards the leg side for a big swing, unlike his other lofted shots down the ground today. The ball turns in from outside off, goes past his bat and knocks over the off stump. Phillips is delighted and why shouldn't he be, bowling his 13th over today. 221/3
96.3 to AD Mathews, he's troubled Mathews all morning and he gets him now with a top edge off the sweep. That's a wonderfully flighted ball from Phillips, who beats Mathews in the air, as the batter gets low in his attempts to thump it flat through square leg. It turns and bounces though, and the top edge floats up to short fine who barely has to move to gobble it up. That's a big breakthrough, and Mathews falls 12 short of what would have been a 17th Test ton.. 328/4
118.3 to DM de Silva, taken by Blundell! Phillips strikes on the stroke of lunch! But even this catch isn't without a bit of confusion. But Blundell does well with that helmet on, as he tracks the ball while keeping his eyes on it, and finishes where an imaginary backward short leg might have been. Phillips tossed this ball up at DDS, with the ball dipping on a fullish length around fifth stump. DDS went for the slog sweep - but the bat swing wasn't entirely complete there, and even his head didn't move while playing that shot. So he got a top edge which ballooned up, and ended in his dismissal. 402/5

0.5 to TWM Latham, taken at gully! A simple catch for Nissanka, and Sri Lanka strike in the first over itself... just like New Zealand had! Asitha angled this in, and bowled on the shorter side of a length around sixth stump. The ball seamed back in to finish closer to off, and Latham went punching at it away from his body. But he got an outside edge, and the ball flew to Nissanka. 2/1
17.533331.85853000
23.5 to R Ravindra, bowled him! Peiris strikes, and gets a wicket on debut! He tossed this ball up while angling it in, as it landed on a fullish length on leg. Ravindra was slightly across his stumps in looking lap sweep the ball, but he seemed to be late on the shot, as the ball rushed through to hit leg stump. An in-form batter to have on debut is always cherished, as Peiris gets off the mark in Tests. 41/4
25.2 to AY Patel, trapped in front! Just half an appeal from Peiris and his mates, and given out already! That looked pretty straightforward, too. Peiris went full on middle and off, as the ball drifted into the left-hander. Ajaz went to defend from off stump, perhaps playing for the turn, but there was none of it this time. Struck in front, and gone!. 52/5
39.5 to MJ Santner, knocks him over with a corker! Finally gets the length right and that does it for Santner. Neither too full to get forward to, nor too short to go back. Drops on Santner on a length, having drifted into off stump and then rags away, breezing past the outside edge of his defence and knocking back off stump. The word has come through: Sri Lanka have enforced the follow-on, meaning that there will be no immediate respite from this trial by spin for the Kiwi batters!. 88/10

8.2 to DP Conway, animated and confident appeal for lbw by Sri Lanka... and given! But Conway reviews immediately! Jayasuriya bowled this on a fullish length around off, and the ball almost straightened away. Conway pushed forward at that from middle stump, and guess what, got a thin outside edge, as confirmed by UltraEdge. So while that ruled the lbw out, the ball actually went low into the slip fielder's hands, who did well to react hurriedly, and grab it with his fingers barely below the ball. So Jayasuriya does eventually get Conway. 19/2
16.6 to KS Williamson, tickled to slip! Superb variation of pace by Jayasuriya! He tossed the ball up, and bowled much slower than most of his balls to Williamson today. The ball landed on a length on middle, even as it dipped towards Williamson, who was defending with his bat on off stump. There was considerable turn away too, as Williamson's attempted defence took the shoulder of the bat for a simple catch for DDS. 24/3
26.1 to TA Blundell, edged to slip! New Zealand keep sliding down and down. DDS, at slip, took it on the second grab, with the ball coming to him hurriedly. Blundell went for the punch at this length ball just outside off, but got an outside edge. He seemed to have gone hard at it, too, as the ball rushed on towards DDS. The ball from Jayasuriya was on a length, and just outside off, with some turn away,. 53/6
26.3 to GD Phillips, more catching practice for DDS! This time he takes it with a reverse cup, and over his head. Phillips goes flashing and flaying at this length delivery dipping on a sixth-stump line. It turned away too, with Jayasuriya slowing it down considerably. Phillips went launching at it with a flat bat in the end, and the edge flew to DDS. 53/7
30.3 to DJ Mitchell, straight to long on! Jayasuriya collects another five-wicket haul at Galle, and New Zealand sink further! Dangles the carrot on a length on the stumps and Mitchell bites. Skips down the track, looking to clear long on but does not quite get the contact he is after. Was probably not to the pitch of it and Mathews completes a regulation catch on the fence. Mitchell is disappointed with himself but that sort of sums up the morning NZ have endured!. 66/8
32.3 to TG Southee, edged and taken! Jayasuriya is causing carnage at Galle, and that is now becoming a tale as old as time! Slowed up beautifully on a length outside off. Southee is beaten in the flight and his front foot does not get him to the pitch of the ball. Pokes at it thereafter and nicks it. DDS tracks it all the way and snares the chance to his left. NZ on the brink of being bowled out!. 68/9

0.6 to TWM Latham, got'im! New Zealand's woes continue! Fired in quicker and fuller just outside off. The ball seems to come in with the angle and Latham prods at it with slightly hard hands. The ball kisses the inside edge and flies towards short leg, where Nissanka stays down low and gobbles up a sharp chance. Just what SL would have wanted; just what NZ would have been fearful of!. 0/1
22.2 to KS Williamson, Williamson perishes too - the change of ends works for Peiris! Tossed up generously on a length outside off. Williamson skips down but does not quite get to the pitch of it. A slight puff of dust as the ball pitches and it spins back enough to force the bat face to close. Williamson's flick arrows towards long on, where Ramesh Mendis, on as a sub, moves to his right, settles under it and completes the catch in front of his chest. Bangs his head into the turf too but that will not sting at all. Sri Lanka with two wickets in quick succession!. 110/3
26.6 to R Ravindra, knocks him over with an absolute beauty! The dream off-spinner's delivery! Fizzed through on a back of a length. Drifts in, pitches on middle and leg, and then rags away. Ravindra is squared up completely and has no clue on how to play it. Fends at it in hope but sees the ball rip past the outside edge and topple the bails. Peiris is delighted; Ravindra, a little shellshocked, much like the entire New Zealand side!. 121/5
44.3 to TA Blundell, big shout and given lbw! Blundell has been hit on the front foot by a turning ball as he misses a riverse sweep. He reviews straight away. Is that turning past leg? Nope, ball projection has it nicking leg stump, so the umpire's decision stays. Sri Lanka strike in the third over of the day.. 216/6
61.4 to GD Phillips, taken at a straightish long-on! The fielder there is not as wide as he usually is, and Phillips finds him. The bowling change works for Sri Lanka, as Peiris takes a five-for on debut. He tossed the ball up on a full length, as it angled into off, even as Phillips looked to bash it back over the bowler's head again, only for the fielder on the boundary to be straighter than usual. 280/7
81.4 to MJ Santner, stumped?! Maybe, as Kusal looks confident. Santner was yet again coming down the track, but perhaps not accounting for the change of angle by Peiris. Yup, the first replay confirms that Santner's back leg is barely short of the crease, before Kusal whips the bails off. Peiris tossed it up on a length around middle and off, and got it to turn away, as Santner shaped to skip down again. But this time he was beaten by the length, as much as but the turn, as he eventually looked to slash, but missed. 360/10
34213934.0813313300
23.6 to DJ Mitchell, was that a bump ball?! Well, Sri Lanka are celebrating, even as Mitchell indulges in the double teapot! Slanted in very full on middle and leg. Mitchell looks to work it away but the ball just stops enough in the surface, having pitched before hitting the pad. Chunks up off the inside half of the bat and Nissanka snaps up another sharp chance at short leg. Mitchell cannot believe what has happened, but he has to make the long walk back!. 113/4
64.3 to TG Southee, much slower, and bowled him! Southee was again down the track, but he seemed to have come too early. Jayasuriya must have seen that, and bowled really slow on a length on middle. The ball turned away to hit off, with Southee attempting to heave it across the line, but getting completely beaten. 291/8
78.3 to AY Patel, leaps back out of the footmarks like a leopard out a bush. This is exactly what Jayasuriya was looking for when he is bowling over the wicket and pitching it wide. It turned so sharply and so quickly, Patel didn't have the time to react. Pings the top of off stump and NZ are nine down.. 344/9
511402.80232000
20703.5081000
702814.00293110
18.6 to DP Conway, Conway bites the dust, and DDS' happy knock of breaking partnerships continues! Looped up deliciously on a length outside off and Conway cannot resist the temptation to have a pop at it. Tries to go inside out but is nowhere to the pitch of the ball because it dips late on him. Spoons it up and Chandimal, running back from extra cover, clings on. Conway was batting so well but he now has to trudge back!. 97/2
