England v Bangladesh, Trent Bridge
England v Bangladesh, Trent Bridge, NatWest Series 2005
15-Apr-2006
At Nottingham, June 21 (day/night). England won by 168 runs. England 6 pts. Toss: England.
One-day international debuts: C. T. Tremlett; Shahriar Nafees.
Mohammad Ashraful made an astonishing 94 from 52 balls, but this time he and Bangladesh
were cast in their more familiar role. The night belonged to Paul Collingwood, only the second
man, after Viv Richards, to combine a hundred with five wickets in a one-day international. He
actually took six, the first England bowler ever to do so in this form of cricket. His century was England's third-fastest, at 77 balls, and he advanced to a career-best 112, including five sixes;
Strauss reached 152, also a one-day best, after putting on 141 with Trescothick, and England made
391 for four, then the second-biggest total in one-day internationals after Sri Lanka's 398 for five
against Kenya in 1995-96. Chris Tremlett of Hampshire almost had a hat-trick on debut when
Ashraful played the first ball he faced on to his stumps without dislodging the bails. Ashraful
then played the best innings of the match, hooking boldly for three sixes and 11 fours. But he
was the first victim for Collingwood, who took the sixth with his final ball, a looping full toss
that bowled Mashrafe bin Mortaza. In contrast to Harmison's success at The Oval, Collingwood's
bowling looked innocuous from the boundary. "I was just trying to mix my pace up," he said
afterwards. "I think I took four or five wickets with my slower ball. In fact, come to think of it,
it might have been all six."
Man of the Match: P. D. Collingwood.
