Glamorgan have pulled off a major coup with the signing of Herschelle Gibbs, the South Africa batsman, for their Twenty20 campaign this summer. Gibbs is eligible to play for the county from June 11.
"I'll be coming from the Pro20 competition in South Africa and then the Indian Premier League. I'll be in the perfect mindset," Gibbs said. "I want to help drive the Glamorgan team toward finals day and hopefully get some silverware. I am really excited to be joining Glamorgan for the Twenty20 Cup, which will also be my first experience of county cricket."
"Herschelle has an outstanding track record, especially in the shorter form of the game," said Matthew Maynard, the Glamorgan manager. "I'm sure that our supporters will be eager to see in action for Glamorgan a man who entered the record books in the 2007 World Cup by hitting six sixes in an over.
"After discussions with Jason Gillespie, it was always our intention to sign a world-class batsman for this competition. He will certainly complement the experience and talent which Jason will offer to us in other competitions.
"With so much Championship cricket at the back end of the season, the signing of Herschelle means that Jason will be able to return to action in the other competitions having had a short break."
Gibbs smashed himself into the record books during 2007's World Cup when he cracked six sixes off Dan van Bunge's fourth over. He signed to play for Durham four years ago, but was withdrawn by Cricket South Africa who thought it best he took a break from the game.
