Northamptonshire have signed former South Africa spinner Nicky Boje for the remainder of the season. They are struggling with injuries and international calls and, although initially targeting a fast bowler, have opted for Boje with the pitches likely to assist spin.
"The search to replace Johan van der Wath with an overseas fast bowler has proved a difficult one as many of the worlds finest cricketers are either competing in the Twenty20 World Championship, or have previously been registered by other first-class counties," said head coach David Capel.
"With the restricted availability of Monty Panesar and likelihood of playing on used pitches more favourable to spin bowling we have decided to recruit the services of [Boje]. He brings a wealth of cricketing experience into our team as well as having a proven track record with bat and ball in both first-class and one day cricket."
Boje, who retired from international cricket last year, has had a previous stint in county cricket with Nottinghamshire.
