BBC Wales Sport will be providing ball-by-ball commentary via the Internet for all of Glamorgan`s National Cricket League, Twenty20 and major Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy games during 2003.
Edward Bevan, BBC Wales` cricket correspondent, will lead the commentary team, which will also include commentators Oliver Hides and Nick Webb, plus summaries from Glamorgan stalwarts Don Shepherd, Steve Watkin and Peter Walker, and statistical input from scorer Andrew Hignell.
Rob Thomas, Executive Producer, BBC Sport said :-
" This is a very exciting development for BBC Wales Sport. We have been keen supporters of Glamorgan cricket over the years and streaming commentary from the Radio Wales team on the web will enable Welsh cricket fans all over the world to follow the team's progress."
"Whilst we are increasing our ball-by-ball commentary on Radio Wales Medium Wave to start from 3pm onwards, we are aware that many Glamorgan fans would prefer to hear the whole of the match, right from the start, and this innovation provides that opportunity."
Mike Fatkin, Glamorgan`s Chief Executive said:
"We're delighted to be developing our association with BBC Wales in this way. We know that the coverage of National Cricket League matches on Radio Wales has been extremely popular for many years now and the fact that we can now extend the commentaries so that the whole of each game is available on the glamorgancricket.com website is very positive news indeed."
"A huge number of people, based all across the world, follow Glamorgan via the internet and whilst ball-by-ball scores have been a feature of our website for some time, the ability to listen to audio commentary for every match will put our many thousands of supporters even more closely in touch with the Club. We're excited that our association with BBC Wales is enabling Glamorgan to be one of the first counties to be able to provide this sort of service and we know it will be very well received."
The first online game will see the Glamorgan Dragons taking on the Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road, Leicester, starting at 1.00pm on Sunday, May 4th. To listen to the online commentary, just click on the BBC Wales logo at the top of the Glamorgan homepage.
