Fives & Heronians' victory over Billericay ensures mid-table respectability for them and relegation to division one for Billericay
03-Sep-2000
Fives & Heronians' victory over Billericay ensures mid-table respectability for them and relegation to division one for Billericay.
Mel Hussain (117) and Simon Fitzgerald (45*) were the main contributors to a daunting 298-5 and Billericay found the target too much, going down by 110 runs.
Saffron Walden's six wicket win over Gidea Park moves them into second place above Hadleigh who lost to Chelmsford by 98 runs, but either of them could finish in second place and their final matches will also settle the relegation battle as they play Hainault and Chelmsford, one of whom will join Billericay in division one next season.
Wanstead, having assured themselves of the title last week, relaxed and lost to Loughton by 60 runs and Hainault's 53-run win over Shenfield kept them eight points above the relegation area.
Colchester defeated Chingford by eight wickets to move to the top of division one, replacing Horndon who drew with Wickford who finished just seven short of their target but with only two wickets in hand. These two are now assured of promotion.
