ICC Europe signs new kit deal

The ICC Europe and Cricket Factory have announced the signing of a deal “as part of the overall commitment to help grow the great game across Europe”.

The ICC Europe and Cricket Factory have announced the signing of a deal “as part of the overall commitment to help grow the great game across Europe”.

Cricket Factory is a manufacturer of equipment who, the ICC says, are a good partner because the “accessible nature of its design allows for a wide range of abilities to participate in Cricket Factory related activities. It has been utilised extensively by the ECB in England and Wales over several years both as an equipment range into clubs, schools and community groups, and also as the key feature of the ECB National road show to promote engagement in the sport for children, young people and adults.”

Since February 2012, Cricket Factory has worked alongside ICC Europe and was present at the ICC European Conference in April, where European members had the chance to interact with the Cricket Factory team at Lord’s and have a first-hand experience of the equipment and its wide ranging use.

An ICC statement said it “recognises the huge potential of this partnership and how it can benefit members at grassroots level to encourage wider and greater participation amongst young people and adults, whilst at the same time being used to support cricket skill development in coaching and training programmes.”

Sixteen players have started legal proceedings against the organisers of the Cricket All Star T20 Match which was held in Toronto in May claiming they have yet to be paid. The event was run by Ontario-based Kat Rose Custom Designs Inc (Kat Rose) and approved by Cricket Canada.

Affected players include Sanath Jayasariya, Saqlain Mushtaq, Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram, Mark Boucher, Devon Smith, Tito Best and Zimbabwean captain Brendan Taylor.

“We are incredibly disappointed and distressed by the lack of professionalism of the Kat Rose organisation,” said Tim May, chief executive officer of FICA. “The players fulfilled their contractual obligations and are now each left out-of-pocket to the tune of several thousand dollars of their own money. How can anyone in good conscience conduct business this way?

“It is unacceptable that the players have yet to be compensated and reimbursed for their time and costs.”

Dawn reports that Brazil is looking to try to get its population to embrace new sports head of the 2016 Olympics, including baseball, rugby ... and cricket .

Flush with cash from a recent decade of economic growth and eager to broaden its athletic spectrum before hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil is on a hiring spree of foreign coaches for sports that traditionally are not its forte.

In recent months, an American baseball player, an English cricketer and rugby players from New Zealand have spread out over Latin America’s biggest country to teach their chosen sports. At least 30 coaches from 18 different countries are now working with Brazil’s Olympic teams to help raise their games.

USACA considers next steps against Williams

The USA Cricket Association has moved to distance itself from suspended executive secretary Kenwyn Williams, with a spokesman telling ESPNcricinfo that Williams “no longer has the rights to represent the association”.

Williams’ future will be discussed at the USACA AGM in Florida on November 10 but the spokesman said the board may bring this forward in view of what was described as “ongoing unprofessional and non-compliant behaviour”. Williams has continued to attack individuals on the board, journalists and even the ICC on social media outlets.

“He is suspended and no longer has a role in US cricket,” the spokesman said, adding that much of what Williams was posting contained “serious factual inaccuracies”.

Of most concern is his continuing use of USACA headed paper to publish official-looking letters as well as his leaking of private board business which contravenes agreements on confidentially which binds all board members.

Have you ever seen a bear try to make sense of a teapot? It's a terrible business. Unable to wrap its paws around the handle or grasp the pot's purpose in its tiny mind, the bear gets bewildered, then it turns irate, and finally it gets furious and flies into a terrible rage. Which is why, when you have a bear over to tea, you should always offer to play mother and do the pouring yourself.

[USACA secretary Kenwyn] Williams' is one of the great self-inflicted wounds, almost – if not quite – up there with the memorable occasion when British General William Elphinstone dropped one of his own pistols and accidentally shot himself in the buttock.

Suspended USACA secretary faces legal action

Williams, who was suspended last week after increasing erratic posts on USACA social media sites, has continued his attacks on board members. He has also published an agenda for next month’s AGM on USACA headed notepaper containing items which appeared designed to further embarrass the board.

“You must cease and desist from these actions and anything even remotely similar,” McGuire Woods, USACA's legal representatives, wrote to Williams on Tuesday (October 23). "The documents you have circulated and/or posted contain confidential information protected by the court. They also make false and defamatory statements about a board member and the organisation generally.

“There is no legitimate or justifiable reason for you to be taking these actions and making these public comments. Your sole purpose in publishing these materials appears to be to bring USACA and its board into disrepute.

Last obstacle preventing Cricket Kenya elections removed

The long-delayed Cricket Kenya elections are now on course to be held by the end of the year after the removal of the last obstacle posed by the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association, which had delayed them taking place over the summer.

The NPCA submitted its list of candidates for the CK board last week, ending months of wrangling over the validity of internal elections. Disgraced former CK CEO Tom Tikolo had won a court order earlier in the year preventing NCPA delegates from representing the association in elections which had originally been due to take place in February.

Tikolo's action prevented most of the country's largest body, NCPA, from participating in the elections. He was then elected the NPCA Chairman last August even though he had been forced to stand down as CK chief executive at the end of 2009 after failing to account for board funds received by him.

An unexpected outcome of the NPCA meeting was that Jackie Janmohamed was picked to stand for the post of CK chairman which is vacant after Samir Inamdar decided not to seek re-election. Janmohamed was a legal advisor for the old Kenyan Cricket Association which was removed from office in 2005.

Suspended USACA secretary goes on the attack

The infighting within the USA Cricket Association (USACA) which last week led to the suspension of Kenwyn Williams, the increasingly unpredictable executive secretary, continues with the issuing of an agenda for the forthcoming AGM which includes a motion to remove John Thickett, the treasurer, and to scrap the multi-million dollar deal with Cricket Holdings America (CHA).

The AGM, which is due to be held in Fort Lauderdale on November 10, is already likely to be a lively affair as the board will face questions over Williams' recent conduct and its failure to act swiftly when the problem arose.

While senior board members have now regained control of USACA's social media outlets and are looking at their options to remove Williams from office, he continues to cause them embarrassment.
