Dave Joseph, who played a decade of first-class and List A cricket for Leeward Islands and West Indies A through the 1990s, and a little bit of T20 cricket for Antigua towards the end of his career, had a short stint at the highest level.
He had been earmarked for Test cricket for a while, and got his chance when Australia toured the Caribbean in 1999. "Does not always try to build innings; sometimes too aggressive," Colin Croft had said of him before his debut, and Joseph proved him wrong straightaway, scoring 50 in his first Test innings over two-and-a-half hours against Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie, Shane Warne and Stuart MacGill.
He played all four Tests - the series ended 2-2 - but that 50 remained his best. The rest of what Croft had said - "Needs to get into shape, both body and mind, for international cricket" - turned out to be prophetic. Joseph didn't play for West Indies again after that series.
