Desmond Chumney, born in St Kitts but now resident in Toronto, is a hard-hitting upper-order batsman who is a long-standing member of the Canadian team, being an almost ever-present since his debut in the 1997 ICC Trophy, and he was part of the sides that finished third in the 2001 and 2005 events. But his form in major ODIs and Intercontinental Cup matches has been poor, and in 23 games he has not made fifty. In the World Cricket League in Kenya in 2007 he managed only 28 runs in four innings, and at 39 and having failed in the 2003 World Cup, there were those who suggested his time was up. Nevertheless, the selectors decided to give him one last chance on the big stage.
