Edward Budd was a prominent right-hand batsman and an occasional medium-pace lob bowler. He was also a good fielder and these allround abilities made him one of the most sought-after single-wicket players of his generation. His true figures are lost in the mists of time as many matches were not recorded, but from those available it is clear that he was a formidable opponent. His career spanned from the early 1800s through to the 1830s. His main side was the MCC - he took four wickets in the first match on the third and final Lord's ground in 1814 - but he played for many other teams including England and Gentlemen.
