Fabian Cowdrey, the latest member of the Cowdrey clan, is charged with continuing the family's great cricketing traditions. Son of Chris and grandson of the late Lord Colin, Fabian must contend with considerable expectancy from the Kent public as he seeks to make the grade. Still, if it gets too much emotionally, there is always brother Julius to help him out - he is a musician and Fabian often writes the lyrics for his songs.

Cowdrey has suggested himself an adaptable cricketer very much in the modern style. His left-arm spin is becoming a useful weapon for Kent in one-day cricket and his batting has gradually gained in power and range with his best displays to date coming in limited-overs cricket. In the off-season he has played grade cricket in Brisbane and Sydney.

Cowdrey teamed up successfully with Daniel Bell-Drummond at the top of the order in T20 cricket in 2013, scoring 152 runs in five innings at an average of 38, including a maiden half-century against Surrey at the Oval. The former Tonbridge School student then broke into the Spitfires YB40 side and, on his List A debut, he blasted 52 off just thirty balls to underline his natural talent.

Progress was limited over the next two seasons, with a sprinkling of opportunities in the Championship side bringing scant reward, although he did gain a decent grounding in the limited-overs formats which looked sure to hold him in good stead.
