James Anyon was something of a journeyman medium-pacer until he appeared transformed during the 2010 off-season. Suddenly, as he roared down the hill at Hove, here was a quick bowler to be reckoned with. On his day, he was capable of shaking up the best batting order.

Anyon started out with Warwickshire, where he sustained a serious foot injury in 2008, and had a spell on loan at Surrey before signing a two-year deal with Sussex in 2009. His debut season for the county was impressive - taking 26 wickets at 26.76 in 10 Championship games as Sussex were promoted. He returned in 2011 bulked out and with more pace and took 50 Championship wickets for the first time. Though a step behind a long list of English pacemen with international potential he had become a potent member of Sussex's attack. He signed a new two-year contract at the end of 2013 for a county where he had found his spiritual home.
