Moin Ashraf, a Bradford-born fast-medium bowler, made his first-class debut against Loughborough University in May 2010 and signed his first professional contract for Yorkshire at the end of the 2010 season, having made an impact in the last two matches of the Championship season by taking three wickets on his debut in a win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge and following up with 5 for 32 against Kent at Headingley.

He struggled to reproduce that form in 2011 and 2013 but 2012 was more successful as he took 7 wickets in eight Championship matches, culminating with 4 for 36 in the first innings to help Yorkshire clinched their return to Division One with a comprehensive victory over Essex at Chelmsford in the last match of the season. He was selected for the Potential England Performance Programme Squad for the 2011-12 winter

Ashraf made a big contribution, too, to Yorkshire's Friends Provident Twenty20 campaign, in which they were runners-up to Hampshire. His 15 wickets included a career-best 4 for 18 against Derbyshire. His skill at bowling yorkers on cue at a time when the delivery was somewhat going out of fashion attracted particular attention.

But he never kicked on at Headingley and he was released after five years in which he made 21 first-class appearances taking 43 wickets. He wrote a heartfelt open letter to Yorkshire on his release saying: "Not only has Yorkshire played a massive part in how I have evolved as a cricketer, but also it has been instrumental in how I have developed as a person."
