Fast bowler Nicky Shaw burst in to the England senior squad for their winter tour to Australia and New Zealand 1999-2000 as a 17-year-old bustling with promise, having been part of the victorious England A team who won the European Cup in 1999.

Shaw was a pivotal member of the England side that climbed to the top of the women's game in the 2000s. After a long period recovering from a back injury she was made England's vice captain in 2007 but her best performance came when it mattered most - in the 2009 World Cup final.

Coming into the side as a late replacement when Jenny Gunn suffered a calf injury on the morning of the match, she rolled over New Zealand with 4 for 34 to collect the player of the match award and a World Cup winner's medal. She was also in the side that won the Ashes in 2008 and the World Twenty20 in 2009.

With little more to achieve in the game she retired in July 2010 and is planning to move to Australia.
