A promising left-arm fast bowler, Scott Walter was handed a Queensland rookie contract for 2008-09 after impressing in the grade and state under-19 ranks. By the end of the summer he had been picked for a Sheffield Shield debut at the Gabba against Western Australia, but the 19-year-old bowled only eight overs due to a hamstring injury picked up while batting. He was the QAS Player of the Year and earned 21 first-grade wickets in 2008-09.
He started with a bang last summer, taking 6 for 121 against Western Australia, and backed up with 4 for 30 against Tasmania. When struck by a side strain he was the leading wicket-taker in the Sheffield Shield with 20 in six appearances. He had also picked up 4 for 34 on one-day debut, but the injury kept him out of the Twenty20s and he didn't play over the second half of the season. Walter, who is studying environmental science, was part of the Academy bowling programme during the 2008 winter and plays for the University club.
