Subashis Roy is a medium-pace bowler who has been a steady performer in Bangladesh domestic cricket but, unlike his contemporaries, took a bit of time making it to the senior side.

As an 18-year old, Subashis made his Dhaka league debut for Cricket Coaching School during the 2006-07 season. He had trouble with his bowling action initially: he tended to stop dead at the popping crease before releasing the ball. His coaches Sarwar Imran and Saiful Islam helped sort the problem out, and Subashis went on to play for Bangladesh Under-19s in the 2008 World Cup in Malaysia. He had already taken seven wickets on first-class debut for Sylhet Division in the previous year.

He went through quite the grind in domestic cricket. Took 21 wickets, including two five-fors in the 2008-09 first-class season. Took 21 List A wickets in the 2014-15 Dhaka Premier League and followed that up with 18 more in the next edition of the tournament to finally break into the Bangladesh senior squad. He was called up for the second Test against England in October 2016 but had to wait until December to make his debut - in the ODIs against New Zealand.
