Thomas Howard was a fast underarm bowler who played regularly for Hampshire and the MCC. He was also a prominent player in single-wicket matches, accompanying Lord Frederick Beauclerk in the infamous game in 1810 which led to the introduction of wides and the major falling out of Beauclerk and George Osbaldeston. In 1817 he was one of four men who took on Osbaldeston and William Lambert
