It took Tobias Verwey slightly longer than he hoped to force his way into the Namibian national team - finally making at 25. He served a long apprenticeship, playing in both the 2000 and 2002 Under-19 World Cups, but he began to play in the senior side in late 2005.
In just his third first-class match, against the United Arab Emirates in December 2006, he struck a magnificent 114, coming in at nine, which helped his team to a crushing victory.
His batting has previously counted against him; he averaged just 14 at both the Under-19 World Cups but, along with Stefan Swanepoel, Namibia have good
depth in the wicket-keeping department.
