That rare thing, an English wrist spinner, Tom Craddock impressed Essex after playing against them for the Unicorns in 2011. A few weeks later, Craddock made his first-class debut against the touring Sri Lankans and, after a two-month trial, he was offered a full contract. In 2013, he took a five-wicket haul - including Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and Matt Prior - against England, in their Ashes warm-up, only for the match to be stripped of its first-class status.

Born in Yorkshire, Craddock is a product of Leeds/Bradford MCCU, and his wicket-taking contributions for Essex have been steady. But an inability to contribute with the bat has meant Craddock has become more accustomed to 2nd XI cricket than he would like. Yet his potential is clear, and in the 2012-13 winter he was invited to train in Victoria, including with the Melbourne Stars. After 25 appearances spread across four seasons, he was released by Essex at the end of 2014.
